SpotXchange Publisher Integration Options

Integrating video ads is complicated business. It’s not simply integrating a banner or search results on a page. Typically, it requires dynamically inserting a video ad unit into a video player or online game in a seamless and consumer-friendly fashion.

Knowing the demands integration places on publishers, SpotXchange has invested considerable resources into developing a comprehensive set of integration options for requesting and displaying our video ads. Publishers can either directly integrate the SpotXchange feed or integrate through their existing vendor.

At a very high level, all methods of integration share the following paradigm:

  • Publishers request ads in real-time by placing a parameterized query to SpotXchange's ad servers (parameters passed include the viewer's IP address)
  • SpotXchange's ad-matching algorithms compare the parameters passed in the query with all available ads to identify the matching ads at-that-moment-in-time
  • SpotXchange responds in real-time with a feed containing the direct URL links to the ads that match the parameters passed
  • The ads are served from SpotXchange's content delivery network into the publisher's video player, casual game or HTML page
  • As the ad plays, the video player sends incremental "beacons" to the SpotXchange ad servers; these beacons are used to track duration viewed

Variables that drive your selection of a single approach include your ad unit preferences (Overlay vs. Pre-, Mid-, Post-Roll), your content format type (FLV or WMV) and your technical proficiencies and preferences.
