How do I get started?
SpotXchange advertisers can launch their campaigns within minutes of signing up. First, create an account on the Advertiser Sign Up page. Once an account is established, log into the SpotXchange platform, create a campaign and load a commercial to associate with that campaign. In the Marketplace section of the SpotXchange tools, target your campaign by parameters that include region, demographic, content category, publisher and time of day. You can upload your commercial, target your campaign and optimize your bids before placing a balance in your advertiser account, so there's no cost to test-drive the SpotXchange platform.
- top -What is performance-based advertising?
Advertising that generates a measurable return on investment, in SpotXchange’s case, through advanced targeting technologies combined with real-time optimization and high quality inventory.
- top -What is a campaign?
A campaign is an organizational home for a family of commercials. Think of it as a folder. You may want to group commercials by region, by client (if you are an agency), or by creative.
- top -What is a commercial or commercial listing?
A commercial listing is comprised of a video commercial, information about that commercial (title, description, display URL, tracking URL), and banners that may be served alongside the video commercial. Once a commercial listing is loaded, you can target available ad slot inventory in the SpotXchange Marketplace.
- top -What exactly is "ad slot inventory"?
This refers to the sponsorship opportunities that SpotXchange traffic partners, publishers, and other video content owners make available to our marketplace. For example, a publisher web site that offers instructional golfing videos may elect to monetize that content with 15 second video ads that play before each requested video is shown. These advertising opportunities appear as inventory in the SpotXchange Marketplace. SpotXchange currently supports three types of video advertising – Pre-Roll, Overlay, and In-Game (for casual games).
- top -What is a target?
A target is a parameter or set of parameters that an advertiser assigns to deliver a commercial to a specific audience on the SpotXchange network. Advertisers can target commercials in the SpotXchange Marketplace by parameters that include geographic locations, channels (specific web sites/videos), content categories such as "sports" or "business news", time of day, or a combination of any or all of these parameters.
- top -In which video formats can I load my commercial?
SpotXchange allows advertisers to load virtually any video format including .wmv, .mov, .flv, .mp4 and .avi. SpotXchange then automatically encodes the submission into the standardized video formats required by our traffic partners. Videos must be in 4:3 aspect ratio with minimum dimensions of 640x480.
- top -Is there a limit on how long my commercial can be?
No, however, keep in mind that SpotXchange traffic partners can set maximum duration limits (e.g. – 10 seconds or 15 seconds) when calling the platform for InStream and InGame commercials. In order to maximize your network coverage, we recommend submitting commercials that do not exceed 15 seconds. Overlay commercials can run up to two minutes in length.
- top -Is there a maximum file size for submitted commercials?
SpotXchange allows advertisers to submit video files up to 100MB. If your commercial is larger than that, and you do not have the ability to compress your video file, please contact an account representative or email support@spotxchange.com.
- top -Do I have to load every video format (wmv, quicktime, flv, etc.) of my commercial?
No, you can load almost any video format, and SpotXchange will automatically transcode your video into the standardized video formats required by our traffic partners. Video must be in 4:3 aspect ratio with minimum dimensions of 640x480.
- top -Do I have to load banners with my video commercials?
No, but we suggest that you do if you have relevant banners. If you do not have them and want to proceed without banners of your own design, our system automatically produces all IAB standard banners for you based on the title, description, and tracking information you submit when loading your video commercial.
- top -Can I load rich media banners (e.g. flash or animated gifs)?
Yes, SpotXchange allows advertisers to load Flash (.swf) and animated gif banners.
- top -How do I generate impressions for my commercials?
The volume of impressions your commercials generate will be determined by how aggressively you bid and by the depth or breadth of the inventory you have targeted. Your SpotXchange account manager can assist you in structuring your campaign, targets and bids to help you achieve your impression volume and CPM goals, whatever they may be.
- top -How does SpotXchange prioritize ad serving based on bid price
SpotXchange’s algorithms serve ads with the highest per impression bid price for each target. For instance, a commercial with a bid price of $120 CPM will be served before a commercial with a bid price of $.10 CPM.
- top -Will I only get traffic if I have the top bid?
Not necessarily. If a traffic partner has three available ad slots, and therefore calls for three commercials, SpotXchange will return the three most valuable commercials for that target. Your SpotXchange account manager can assist you in structuring your campaign, targets and bids to help you achieve your impression volume and CPM goals, whatever they may be.
- top -Can I see what other advertisers are bidding for particular targets?
Yes, you can see the top 5 bids for specific targets.
- top -What is targeting by CHANNEL or PUBLISHER?
Target by Channel allows you to sponsor specific publishers (also known as traffic partners). Each SpotXchange traffic partner creates a channel(s) when he joins the SpotXchange network. SpotXchange traffic partners characterize their channel(s) with various contextual and demographic data so you have greater knowledge about the traffic you are sponsoring. Traffic partners can also create sub-channels, which allow you to further refine your targeting. An example of a channel might be "Yahoo" while a sub-channel might be "Yahoo_Sports."
- top -Can I target my commercial to specific traffic sources?
Yes, you can select which traffic sources you would like to target. You can target a specific traffic source and/or specific sub-channels within that traffic source.
- top -Can I target multiple channels at the same time?
Yes, just select the Sponsor check box of the channels and sub-channels that you would like to target. Those channels will be added to a shopping cart at the bottom of the page. To remove them from the shopping cart, uncheck the box. When you’ve selected all of the channels you’d like to sponsor then click the Next button located at the top of the page.
- top -Is it possible to add geographic targeting when I target by channel?
Yes, Target by Channel can be overlaid with Target by Region. Advertisers can target any country, state or city in the world.
- top -Is it possible to schedule my ads when I target by channel?
Yes, SpotXchange asks if you would like to schedule or "daypart" your commercial on the last step of each targeting wizard (e.g. – Target by Channel wizard). You can create a weekly recurring schedule (e.g. – Mon through Friday 11am – 1pm) or create an end/start date (e.g. – June 23 – June 25, 2008).
- top -Can I find out how much traffic a certain channel gets across the SpotXchange network?
Yes, estimated available ad inventory by channel and sub-channel is provided in the SpotXchange Marketplace.
- top -What is targeting by REGION?
Advertisers can choose to serve commercials only when consumers from specific geographic areas are viewing a publisher's content. SpotXchange provides the ability to regionally target by country, state, city, and DMA. SpotXchange looks at a user's IP address, and if SpotXchange can readily identify her location, we will then serve the highest valued commercial for that regional target.

This enables you to load a single ad and target it to a relevant type of content category that gets traffic from multiple publishers or traffic partners.

- top -What credit cards does SpotXchange accept?

- top -What is Overlay exactly?
Overlay is a new ad unit that displays video overlay banners in our network of publishers’ players while video content is playing. Clicking on the banner can result in one of two actions depending on which of the following ad units are purchased by the advertiser:
- Overlay with a Video Ad - If the user clicks on the overlay banner to view a commercial, the main video content will pause, and the user will have the option to view the entire commercial, close the commercial to return to the main content, or click on the commercial to visit the sponsor’s site. When the ad has completed or when it is closed, the main video content resumes playing.
- Overlay without a Video Ad - If the user clicks on the overlay banner, then the main video content is paused, and a new window or tab opens to the sponsor’s web site.
How do I get started to deliver Overlay campaigns?
Simply log into your account, click on Load New Commercial, select Overlay, and then load your overlay banner creative and your optional video commercial. Once your Overlay creative is loaded, you can target available inventory by region, demographic, specific sites/videos, time of day, and context. And, like all of your campaigns, you can optimize on the fly based on real-time performance data.
- top -What banner size and format do I load?
Dimension of banner – 300x50. Flash banners with animation higher than 50 pixels are acceptable. Please inquire for specifics. Acceptable formats include jpg, gif, and swf.
- top -What happens if I don’t have a banner or any way to create an Overlay banner?
SpotXchange can create a banner for your company using our standard template. Please provide us with messaging and company logo, and we will do our best to turn around creative within a reasonable amount of time.
- top -Can I use 3rd party ad serving?
Not at this point due to the fact that most 3rd party banner ad servers do not support this type of ad unit. Tracking may be possible depending on what your 3rd party can accommodate. Please put us in touch with your ad serving provider and we can discuss in greater detail.
- top -Do I have to have a video commercial?
No, you can send users directly to your site instead of playing a video commercial.
- top -How long can my video commercial be?
Because consumers are opting to view your commercial, video commercials can run longer than our InStream units. We suggest no longer than 2 minutes though.
- top -How does SpotXchange charge for Overlay ads?
Advertisers are charged on a CPM basis for displaying the Overlay overlay banners, although you can always manage to a specific CPC or CPA goal. We do not charge additionally for clicks or video views. As with all inventory in the SpotXchange network, advertising rates (e.g. – minimum CPM rates) are set by the publishers.
- top -What stats will you provide me?
The SpotXchange self-service tools will report the following for any given time period:
- Overlay Banner Impressions - chargeable event
- Video Viewed - average % your video is viewed
- Clicks - number of visitors that the Overlay delivered to your site
